The old name of the island is St. Nicholas. It is believed that the island was used as a place of worship during the early Christian period and that St. Nicholas lived here. There are remains of churches from the Early Christian and Byzantine periods on the island. The frescoes of the big churches are in good condition and there are the remains of cisterns by the sea. The most interesting historical relic is the tunnel connecting the two churches.
